How to brew coffee while traveling 2021

You know it, you're on a campsite or staying overnight in a hotel. It's a beautiful morning, the morning you've been longing for. Only something is missing, what makes that beautiful morning just perfect. A freshly brewed cup of coffee on a beautiful morning. But unfortunately there is no coffee machine nearby. You're lucky because we've already found the solutions for the travellers among us.

We are going to treat you in different ways how you can still drink coffee while you're traveling. We will also tell you a secret that you shouldn't do if you want to drink delicious coffee while traveling.

The water

We will have to start from the beginning. A large part of coffee consists of water, so a lot of attention will have to be paid to it. Don't underestimate the importance of water in brewing the perfect coffee! Because such a large part of coffee consists of water, it is important that you perform this step as perfect as possible!

To start with the quality of the water

You would think simple right? Just take a little water out of the tap and you're done. NO unless you're sure the water from the tap in the place you're visiting is fresh. There are plenty of countries in the world that don't offer clean water from the tap as they do in the Netherlands. In that case we advise you to buy a bottle of water at a local store.

Temperature of the water

We advise you to keep the water between 92 and 96 degrees.

When the temperature is between 86 and 89 degrees, bitter substances remain in the coffee and most coffee lovers prefer not to have that. Is the water too hot? Then we advise you to transfer the coffee to a metal jug, which reduces the coffee temperature by about 6 degrees.

Brew in a historical way

This is a way of brewing coffee that the campers used to use a lot in the past.

You simply fill a metal jug or pan with water and place it on a grid above the fire. Then you throw a desired amount of ground coffee into the metal pot or jug and wait 5 to 10 minutes. Then you're done and you've brewed a fresh cup of coffee in a truly historic way!

A freshly brewed cup of coffee in a matter of 2 minutes. And that whenever and wherever you want!

Vacuum pot

We think this is a creative and special method for brewing coffee and you will soon find out why. With this method you make sure that water will mist and therefore mix with ground coffee. This whole process takes place in two stacked pots. This method takes a lot of time and we certainly don't recommend it, because it causes a lot of mess and it takes a while to master this art! The result doesn't really taste like it either, we can only recommend this if you have nothing to do for an afternoon. Or if you want to show that you can make coffee in the craziest ways.

There are many types of filters that work well once for making coffee while traveling. These filters are simple to use but require ground coffee beans. You hold the filter above the mug and then throw in the ground coffee. After this you pour hot water into the filter so there's no dirty bitterness.

The disadvantages of these filters are that they have a very short lifespan and that they do not always filter all the residue perfectly, so the taste is less.

What you shouldn't do

Most coffee lovers among us have their favorite coffee mug at home that they want to use for every freshly brewed cup of coffee they brew. This is a no-go if you're going to travel!

The mugs are probably heavy and you certainly don't want to keep that with you all day. Also, the walls of the mug are most likely not made of heat-holding material so your coffee could get cold quickly.

We would like to refer you to our Presso X, because this is definitely a must for every traveler.
