Caffe2go vs Handpresso: Which portable coffee maker is better?

You're looking for a portable coffee maker for travel, but you don't know which one to choose. There are coffee makers with cable, without cable, and even coffee makers that don't run on electricity, but with a pump pressure that you have to generate yourself. In this article 2 travel coffeemakers compete against each other, namely the Presso X from Caffe2go and the Handpresso Auto.

We will compare the 2 devices on the following criteria:

  • Differences
  • Coffee type
  • Taste of the coffee
  • Price
  • Specifications

Besides the fact that they are both travel coffeemakers, there are big differences between the two devices. The Handpresso is a 12v coffee maker, good for making coffee in the car. You can also order an extra adapter to use the device with a power outlet.

So with the 12v coffee maker from Handpresso it is not possible to just drink a cup of coffee when you go for a walk. This is where the Presso X from Caffe2go makes a difference. This device has a rechargeable battery.

Unlike the 12v coffee maker from Handpresso, the Presso X allows you to make coffee wherever you want, even if there is no power outlet nearby. The Presso X is easy to charge with a USB cable.

Coffee type

Both devices use coffee capsules. The Handpresso auto only uses Senseo pads. The Presso X uses both ground coffee and Nespresso capsules (and B brands of these). The Nespresso shaped capsules are mostly made of aluminum. This material is perfect for travelling as the coffee in these capsules stays fresh for an extra long time.

Taste of the coffee

I can't say much about this, but I'm sure you either prefer Senseo pads or ground coffee/Nespresso capsules.
There is a small difference in the pump pressure.
The 12v coffee maker of Handpresso has a pump pressure of 16 bar.
And the Presso X has a pump pressure of 18 bar.

Which price gives you the most for your money. The 12v coffee machine from Handpresso comes with a kit, which comes standard with the machine itself, 2 glasses, 1 large bag and a cloth. This kit costs € 157,50. However, this kit does not include an adapter to use the device with a power outlet. You will probably want to order this one, this will cost you € 41,25 extra! (at the time of writing). This comes to a total of € 198.75.

The Presso X costs only € 99,95. For this you get:
The Presso X itself, adapter for ground coffee, adapter for Nespresso capsules (or B brands thereof), USB cable + adapter and a spoon for the ground coffee!

A striking and important difference is the tank capacity. It is easier to set a delicious lungo with the Presso X, than with the Handpresso car. A larger tank capacity is also useful when you are traveling with your partner or family and everyone wants to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee.
